What's the frame made from and what's its lifespan?

The frame and fixed forks are made from chromium-molybdenum steel (CrMo) with a variable wall thickness of the tubes welded using TIG technology. Such frames are the current standard for gravel and expedition bikes. They can be successfully used in both a light backpacking mode or cycling “full-load” expeditions combined with Tubus Cargo rear rack and the lowrider Tubus Tara front rack and the set of classic Ortlieb panniers (Back Roller Classic, Rack Pack, Front Roller Classic and Ultimate). Steel is strong as well as flexible, it absorbs vibrations well, it's durable and in case of butted tubes also has a favourable weight. If corrosion is prevented and if the bike is well looked after, the lifespan of the CrMo frames is virtually unlimited and if there's a defect it can be easily solved anywhere with an oxyacetylene torch (ie everywhere).

What is the weight of the bike?

The weight of the bike in the basic configuration with a 58 cm frame size is 13.9 kg.

What is the maximum load capacity of the bike?

The maximum load capacity of the bike including cargo is 180 kg.

What is the maximum load capacity of the racks?

The XLC rear rack has the load capacity of 25 kg, while the XLC low rider front rack can carry up to 5 kg on each side (total 10 kg). The TUBUS Cargo Classic expedition rack has the load capacity of 40 kg. The front TUBUS Tara rack has the load capacity of 15 kg.

What is the advantage of the gear hub?

The Shimano Alfine 8 gear hub is an eight-speed gear with 22,16,14,18,22,16,14 percentage intervals and an overall 307% gear range. The range is similar to the conventional 3x8 speed gears. However, the converter with the gear doesn't offer a front derailleur and therefore it's operated with a single shift lever. The planetary gear principle is also completely different from the classic derailleur. The gears can be operated even if the bike is stationary, which is something to appreciate when accelerating up a hill or in the city traffic. Shimano Alfine 11 has 11 speed gears with 29.2, 13.1, 14.0, 13.9, 13.2, 14.0, 13.3, 14.0 percentage intervals and the total range of 408%.
